Born in 1902 in Zurich, Alexander Deutsch played in the orchestra of the Berlin State Opera from 1929 to 1931 as a junior chamber musician with the first violins. In 1931, 1933, and 1934, he was also a member of the orchestra at the Bayreuth Festival. The young musician’s career came to an end the following year. Under the Nazi racial laws, he was classified as a “half-Jew”. On August 17, 1935, he was therefore denied membership in the newly created Reich Chamber of Culture. His appeal was unsuccessful. Little is known about his later life. Alexander Deutsch survived the war and was living in Berlin again in 1947.
